Final Evaluation

Final Evaluation

Though out this project I aimed to photograph CMYK and RGB because that is what this project was aimed on. This was difficult sometimes depending on what you had to photograph but it also opened up a lot of opportunities to take photos of pretty much anything you like.

For task one; we had to create mood board based around RGB and CMYK. We had to create mood boards from magazines, the internet, and library and also from found objects such as leaf’s and flowers. I think that personally this was one of the harder tasks because it was the beginning so I was just getting back into the swing of things and mood bored takes up a lot of time and effort. We only had 3 days to complete these mood boards and create extra if we can. I think that the mood bored helped me with inspiration and help me develop my own ideas for the project.

Our first photo shoot was in Bradford Town where we got a sheet of old photos of Bradford and we had to try and find the same places again, and re-shoot them as they are now. This was also a hard task because some of the places looked completely different and the map wasn’t very helpful. But I did managed to get some photos, but not many I only got 9 and I don’t even think most of them are in the right place but you had to try and match the photo the best you can to the old ones. Even know most of my photos don’t fit and are not very good I think that they are still good photos because of how they was shot, the contrast in the photos with the lovely light blue sky. Also a lot of the photos were really crowded with people and cars as they were near main roads of in the centre of town where it was really busy.

Our 2nd Photo shoot was of advertisements still focusing on CMYK and RGB again this was interesting but hard because you just come across the same sign and advertisements. Also you were unable to take photos of shops such as Bank and Primark because they think its copy right so you had to be careful not to get caught. I really enjoyed this task because it was more open to what you could take photos of but you still had an objective but it was different from the other tasks, also because you were taking photos outside and in you could see the difference between natural and artificial light on your photos. But this was harder to photograph so I think I would need more time to plan and look for more and interesting sign so that it wasn’t the same as everyone else and a little unique.

Our 3nd shoot was in Saltaire but I was unable to go so I had to take my photos at home and I had to go out to places near my house to find all the colours because there wasn’t very much red or green things in my house. But I personally think that this helps my work to stand out from the other in the class. Although I missed out on a lovely trip and probably some really nice photos I still really enjoyed this task. When I take photos I use the grid on my camera almost like guide line to take a good photo. This helps me a lot when I am trying to focus on a certain object. Most of my photos was taken outside so most of them had natural light which I really thinks helps to brighten up my photos and to help you see the depth and detail.

Task 3; I really enjoyed this task even though I thought it would be hard because I hated using photo shop, but when you get the hang of it isn’t too bad. I really enjoyed changing the levels and seeing how grayscale and Duotone can change the effect, feeling, detail and everything in your photo, it amazing how such a small change can make such a massive difference to yours work.  I really did enjoy doing this, I found it easy but interesting and I did extra because I never thought it got boring. I personally don’t think that it works well with all your photos. I think that your photos have to be really bright and vibrant or the Duotone just doesn’t work very well.

For task 3 part 2; We had to do another shoot but this was still life, so we had a variety of different shoots. I decided to use different coloured paper clips and photograph them from different angels and on a pale mute background so that the main object of my photo stud out and so that you didn’t get distracted by anything in the background. I also tuck my photos on a windowsill so that I had natural light because I really think that helps with the detail and the effect of your photo. I think that the pale back ground makes the photos look more dramatic and bold.

Task 4; This is another one of that task that I really enjoy doing, I think now that I am getting more used to using photo shop that I am enjoying making the mood bored and grids then I would do before, and print screening the technique so I can look back and remember how to do everything is really helping. I really enjoyed making these grids and planning and thinking of different ways I can present my work. From original to Grayscale to Dunotone and how I present the colours and what order because sometimes simple change like where you put your photo or how you place it can make a massive difference.

I think that analysing and evaluating my work is a good thing because it helps me to really look into my photos and how I shot them. It helps me to see where I could improve next time and how I can make my work better. This also means I can pick out bits I do and don’t like so I know for next time to try and not make the same mistake. I think I just need to slow down and think a little before I start taking my photos. This can be different with every shoot I do and it totally depends on what I am photographing. With my Bradford shoot that was difficult and even know you had things you had to photograph your photo was nothing like how it was supposed to be because of all the cars and people so you would really have to think how to not to get any of that in your image and still shoot the right street or building.

I have present my two grids RGB and CMYK on a piece of green paper because that links with the colours we had to photograph and my images look really good on the background, I think the white boarder around the side helps my work to jump out and look bold on the green background. I have tried to be very precise on the placing of my final grids by measuring the gaps between my photos and from the bottom of the page to the bottom of my image so that it fits really well and so that it isn’t crowded or look spacious.

Bradford Re-Shoot Evaluation

Bradford Re-Shoot Evaluation
For this task we had to go around Bradford looking for places from photos that was taken of old Bradford and we had to re-shoot them as they are now. Because some of these photos were taken ages ago it was hard to find a lot of the places as some of it have changed a lot over time.
Photo 1 Old Building
I was unable to find all the places so I only have 9 photos but the first photo on my contact print is one of my best photos and the one I like the best. Because even know there is a lot going on in the photo because it is a college so it’s going to be busy you can still tell the main object of the image is the college and I think the light blue sky goes well and give the photo really good contrast. Also its one of the photos that doesn’t have a car in the middle of it which was hard for a lot of them because all the photos needed to me taken to a main road so there was constantly cars going past. I also think that the trees in front of the building help add a bit of greenery to my photo and help to break it up a bit like the sky does. So that it’s not as in your face and It helps the photo not look cramped.
Photo 2 Town

My second photo is in town, looking straight down a street, I don’t think that this photo is taken in the right places but I think that is looks really good because the centre of the street is in the middle of the photo and the lines on the road and the building are all going straight down so this makes it look really good. Again I think the blight blue sky and the little bits of sun light braking thought the buildings helps with the contrast. If I was going to change anything I would try and get it when the streets are quieter so there isn’t as many people walking though and out of my photo so it dosent look so busy and so your eyes don’t get distracted.

Still Life Shoot Evaluation

Still Life Shoot Evaluation
For this task we had to do a still life shoot based on the RGB and CMYK. I tried to take photos all of the colours and using a mute pale background to help the colour and the main object of my image stand out more.
Photo 1, Red Paper Clip
This is one of my bed photos for this shoot because its well-focused and the background is pale and mute like I wanted so it stands out really well. I like the angle of this photo I feel like you can see everything really well and I like how the object fills the whole page but isn’t cramped in. I think because this was taken on a pale painted window sill and because of all the light coming though makes the photo a lot brighter and help the pale background no look so harsh.
Photo 2, Pens

I have only taken 2 photos of these pens but the first one if my favourite because you can really see the detail on the pens and I think this has a lot to do with the bold black background and it really makes the pens look like they are jumping out of the page. I think the lighting for this photo is gradient and not as intense as all the other photos I have taken, so this adds a little mystery and makes the photo jump out compared to my other images. I think because this photo is taken so that you are looking down on the image and because of the lines on the pens this really helps it look 3D. I don’t think I would change anything about this photo, I think that it is really interesting to look at and if I changed anything it would spoil the photo and it wouldn’t look as good anymore.  I think that some of the best photos are the ones you don’t think about too much.

Saltaire/At Home Evaluation

Saltaire/At Home Evaluation
I was unable to go on the Saltaire trip so I had to take my photos at home. I found this really difficult because there wasn’t really much I could take photos of that related to the RGB and the CMYK. So I had to go outside near my house to complete this task. Even know I couldn’t go on the trip I think this makes my work stand out a little more because it is different to everyone else’s photos.
Photo 1 Lucky Bamboo
This is one of my favourite photos that I have taken because of the way I have taken it. It is different from how I have taken my other images and I think that the lighting from the window makes the photo a lot brighter. Even when I have edited this photo on Photoshop by Gayscaling it or Duotning it, it still looks amazing. I think that’s why I like this image so much because no matter how I change it, it still looks bright, vibrant and detailed. If I was going to change anything i might change where I take it somewhere else with a more mute and pale background but that may of effected the lighting so it might not look as good.
Photo 2 Red Help Sign

I really liked the help sign that was near my house, because it was bright red and all the rust around the sides just added detail, texture and depth to my photo. This photograph looks amazing when you have duotoned it. It makes it so much brighter and the detail so much more detailed if that makes sense. I think Because this image is taken outside the natural light really brightens it up and help the photo a lot more, I think that if it was taken on a dull and rainy day it would not have the same effect it does now. I think because it is red it really catches your eye, it scientifically proven that red things jump out to people that’s why a lot of children toys are bright red.

Evaluation of Advertisement images

Evaluation of Advertisement images
Though out this photo shoot I was aiming to get photos of all my colours CYMK and RGB and I was trying to get them as interesting and to stand out as much as I could. This was somewhat difficult because we were limited to what we could take photos of, we could only photograph advertisements and this was hard as we could not take photos of shops such as Bank or Foot Locker as it was copyright. But I was able to photograph some places such as Bank but I had to be really carful and I was able to photograph night clubs as they wasn’t open such as Love Apple.
Photo 1 Wall’s Ice Cream Sign
I decided to photograph this Wall’s Ice cream sign because it was very colourful, vibrant and fit well with our project. This photo was taken outside so the light is natural, really bright and clear but because the photo was taken outside it doesn’t have a clear or nude background so the things around the edge and the bits of rubbish on the floor can be distracting. I think I need to improve the way I have taken the photo and maybe even try out different angles for effect and to improve the photo. I would also change how close I am to the sign and zoom in a little so you can see the whole sign and so it takes up more of the screen, I think this would help the photo be less distracting and make it easier to focus on the main object of the photo. I think that the white border around the sign is enough by its self so if I was to zoom in and leave the border it would still fit really well and not look so craped in the photo.
Photo 2 First Metro Bus Pass
My second image I am evaluation is my photograph of my Buss Pass Holder. This was a pink/Magenta colour so it was really bright and vibrant which I love because I really think it makes my images stand out, jump out to people. I really like the photograph because it has taken it on a dark background which makes the colour stand out also there is nothing else to distract you in the photo. However if I was going to take it again I would take it from a different side and lower to the ground so it almost looked like I was looking up at the Bus Pass, so that when I put it in my mood bored or used it in piece of work it would stand out from my other images.

Duotoned and Grayscale Images Evauation

Duotoned and Grayscale Images Evauation
My cyan photo of a skyline in Spain was already really blue so it didn’t really need editing. When I changed my photo to black and white and changed the levels this made my photo a lot sharper and brighter but when I did the overall blue colour on my photo. I think this ruined my photo and made it a lot more dull and it didn’t stand out as much anymore, I don’t think the colour was sharp enough so for this photo I don’t personally think that this is a good technique for this photograph.
For my magenta photos I used some flowers that I had in my living room. In the original photo the colour was subtle and pretty but still really vibrant. I don’t think that this photo looked very good in black and white I think it lost its eye catching qualities but when I added the magenta overlay I think this brightened my photo up again and improved it in some ways.  I like how now you can see the light hitting the petals I think it helps to make the photo jump out more.  I think that this technique has worked pretty well with this photo and improved it in some ways but I think my original is better and more interesting to look at.
I also took a photo of my lucky bamboo that I keep in my room. This is really pretty. When I made this photo black and white, I think it lost of all its effectiveness I think personally it is very hard to find a black and white photo that looks good but when I sharpened it up and aged the green overlay it looked so much better. It was vibrant, elegant and I like how the background looks blurred so that you can really focus on the main point of the photo. I think that this technique has worked really well with this photo because I like the green over lay and think it’s a lot brighter than other colours.
I have decided to do two photos that was yellow, I did a duck and a cream egg cup because when I did the first one I didn’t personally think it looked very effective because  the yellow wasn’t bright or intense enough for my images. It looked more like an orangey red then a yellow to me. I don’t like this colour and I wouldn’t use this technique if I was going to use yellow on my image. I do think that this technique worked better on my second images as it had less or a neutral background and make the colour easier to stand out on the mug.
The photo of the red door was one of my favourite image because I liked how It was taken and it looked really good before I edited it. I did like this photo when I had made it black and white I think it had a lot more mystery to it and make the little detail jump out more. I also liked when I added the red I just dislike how faded most of the colours are when you put them into your photos I think that this ruins a lot of your images.
Overall I think that this technique isn’t very good because the colours are faded and it takes a lot away from the images. Its takes away detail and it makes it not as eye catching as it ones were. I think that if the over lay of the colors was brighter and more bold it would improve the images a lot more
